Bowel Problems - Introduction

Faecal incontinence and constipation are common problems suffered by a majority of people at some time. Chronic bowel problems are widespread and the source of considerable distress to about 5% of the total population and 39% of nursing home residents.

Genesis Medical provides a home electrostimulation unit for strengthening the external anal sphincter, and a sophisticated electrostimulator and biofeedback system for use in the Clinic or Hospital to be used with EMG electrodes and balloon probes.

Electrostimulation is useful for strengthening muscles. Biofeedback can be used to exercise and strengthen muscles, teach co-ordination for proper defecation and to teach relaxation (e.g. of the anal sphincter).
