A silicone rubber ring is loaded onto a cylinder which is placed over the penis. The vacuum pump then draws out the air, causing the tissue to expand and the penis to become erect. The ring is slipped onto the base of the penis to keep the blood from leaving it and the rest of the device is removed. The erection lasts until the ring is removed. It is recommended that the ring be removed within 30 minutes. The Active II and Impulse from Genesis create and then maintain an erection for 30 minutes.
