To Robin Penberthy
Dear Robin - As promised I am getting in touch with
you to give you an update about the EMDA procedure that I had on 20th September
and 3rd October at Kingston hospital. Here I am, 10 days on and feeling really
wonderful. I have twice managed to sleep until 7am without being disturbed by my
bladder and on the other nights have only had to get up once. This is a dramatic
improvement because at best, before EMDA I was up twice and on a bad night 5 to
6 times. I have been taking amitriptyline 20mgs for the last 9 months which has
helped. There was no abdominal redness at all this time. Although the urine
looked clear immediately after the procedure, it was very dark with visible
fresh blood for about 24 hours. After that it looked clear but on testing with a
'Multistix' the urine was positive for blood +++ (well over the scale) for about
3 days and totally clear after 7 days. The urgency and frequency have more or
less gone and I am able to hold between 300 - 375 mls before needing to void. As
you must realise this had made a vast improvement on my life style and only hope
that it lasts longer than the 5 weeks it lasted in May.
Sincerely Joan
