Urge Incontinence Treatments
To prevent the signals from the bladder nerves overwhelming the inhibitory
reflex and stopping the bladder muscle contracting before time, either
the bladder nerves must be weakened or the inhibitory reflex must be strengthened.
Drugs
may be used to suppress the parasympathetic bladder nerves and usually
this resolves the urge incontinence. However, the drugs affect the entire
parasympathetic nervous system and cause side effects such as dry mouth,
dizziness and nausea. They do not cure the condition and must be taken
continually or the urgency returns.
Electrostimulation of the inhibitory reflex to the bladder muscle with
a very specific current will strengthen it. The stronger inhibitory reflex
returns the situation to normal and the urge incontinence is removed.
Genesis
Medical provides the Unomax
II home stimulator, which cures or significantly improves Urge Incontinence
in over 80% of cases with just 15-20 daily sessions lasting 20 minutes
each. This is well researched
and many clinical trials confirm these results.
Visit our on
line shop for further details of the Unomax II.

Genesis Medical also supplies instruments for clinic-based treatments,
and these are detailed in Healthcare
Professionals.

Stress Incontinence Treatments
Treatments for stress incontinence involve exercise of the pelvic floor
muscles to increase their strength or the injection of a bulking material
around the urethra to narrow the tube through which the urine passes.
Exercise may be performed by simply contracting and releasing the pelvic
floor muscles. This is known as Kegel exercise. It is important to recognise
and to exercise only the pelvic floor muscles in this way. A doctor or
therapist is usually needed to show how to exercise correctly.
Electrostimulation
can be used to contract and relax the muscles and so exercise them. As
the correct muscles are automatically exercised there is no need for special
instruction on muscle recognition. The Genesis Medical Unomax
II home stimulator has several programmes for treating stress incontinence
in this way.
Visit our on
line shop to purchase the Unomax II, or see Healthcare
Professionals for information on clinic-based treatments using the
Unomax II or the Elite electrostimulation and biofeedback system.
