Recurring Bladder Infections
The usual symptoms of a bladder and urethral infection are a burning
sensation when urinating with cloudy and smelly urine. The infection in
the bladder wall causes irritation as the bladder fills and this may lead
to frequent urges to urinate.
It is important to seek medical help whenever a bladder infection is
suspected.
Bladder infections are often very difficult to treat. It is usual to
analyse a sample of the urine to determine the type of infection and so
prescribe specific antibiotics. It is essential to take antibiotics at
a high enough concentration and for long enough to ensure total elimination
of the infection. If the treatment is ended too soon the bacteria will
multiply and again cause the irritation that characterises the condition.
Eventually the kidneys may become infected.
Sometimes antibiotic treatment taken orally or by injection is not successful
in permanently removing the infection. The result is long term discomfort
and frequent courses of antibiotics, sometimes continuing for years. Genesis
Medical offers a method of delivering a very high concentration of antibiotic
directly to the infected tissue using Electro Motive Drug Administration
(EMDA). These concentrations are many times higher
than is possible by taking antibiotics orally or by injection. We recommend
an initial course of three 20 minute treatments of EMDA applied antibiotic
at 48 to 72 hour intervals, and then repeated after a month if required.
Treatment protocols for healthcare professionals are available from Genesis
Medical on
