Silimed Penile Implants

There are essentially two main types of penile implants, inflatable and malleable.

Inflatable two piece prostheses comprise two inflatable cylindrical chambers which are implanted in the corpora cavernosa, one on each side of the penis and a pump is implanted into the scrotum. The user squeezes the pump to force the solution into the cylindrical chambers to create an erection, afterwards the penis is bent to cause the solution to flow back

There are also three piece penile implants available. These comprise two inflatable cylindrical chambers implanted in the corpora cavernosa, a pump in the scrotum and a seperate reservoir for the fluid.

Inflatable prostheses perform well but do require dexterity. If mechanical failure occurs, further surgery is required.

Malleable prostheses offer a good solution for those men choosing an implant. Two seperate semi-rigid rods are implanted into the corpora cavernosa. The penis with the malleable implants is bent into an erect position for intercourse and bent out of the way for concealment when not required. These implants are relatively simple and effective,
